First engagement photoshoot of 2012, it's going to be a good year!

Sara and Gunter chose to spend a few hours in Hermance, a quaint lakeside village on the banks of Lac Léman that has some beautiful little cobbled streets, old doorways and even a little beach, perfect for a winter photoshoot. After a warming coffee and a chat we headed out into the crisp afternoon air for the shoot. As you can see, there was not a flake of snow in sight, quite a difference from today's weather!

The happy couple are getting married in 2 weeks and have chosen to work with Aude from One Fine Day who is helping to organise their special day, I just know it's going to be fabulous!

We had not one, but three very fine days at the Salon du Mariage de Lausanne : Marinatal this weekend. It was such a delight for me to be able to share a stand with Aude, the very gifted wedding planner, who is the Directrice of One Fine Day.

Aude not only offers a fantastic tailor-made service but she is an absolute ray of sunshine to spend time with, I highly recommend her if you are looking for someone to help guide you through the sometimes daunting task of planning your wedding. The stand was buzzing and a particular hit were the 'pop-cakes' made by Atelier du Sucre that went down a real treat!

Engagement photoshoot.

Included in all our wedding photography packages is an 'engagement photoshoot'. What's this I hear you ask !? This is a photoshoot in a location of your choice (within reason!) to be arranged before the wedding. It may take place a whole year, or even just 4 days before your big day. It's a chance for us to get to know each other even better and for you to be more comfortable with me taking photos of you, so that on your wedding day you'll feel so relaxed with having your photo taken that you may even forget that I am there!

It's also great fun and a perfect chance for you to get some really beautiful photos of you both in slightly more relaxed clothing and even get a little grubby (should you wish!). If you would like to get more of an idea of what you can expect please have a peek at the photos below.

"Brimming with love and happiness," is how I would describe Audrey and Vincent's wedding. It was a real joy to photograph and a great end to my wedding season this year.

Audrey is American and Vincent Belgian and in what is more of an American tradition, they decided to have a 'reveal moment' before their ceremony. This is where the bride and groom see each other in private before they walk down the aisle in front of all their guests, such fun! This in turn permitted us to spend quite a substantial amount of time before the ceremony, wandering through old town Geneva, to create a lovely portfolio of 'couple photographs'. This arrangement also allowed Audrey and Vincent to spend more time during their aperitif enjoying the company of their guests.

Couples often ask me how much time they need for their 'couple photos' on their wedding day. I always emphasise the fact that each couple is different, with specific priorities; the decision is entirely yours. It very much depends whether having more shots of you both in a variety of locations is more important than, for example, spending more time at the aperitif with guests. Of course there is always a happy medium. I would say however that the minimum time I would like to spend with you both alone would be 30 minutes and the absolute maximum 1 hour. It's completely your choice and we will discuss all the options in detail before your big day - don't worry. Of course on the day itself things may change, but please rest assured that I am always flexible catering to your wishes.

If you're more 'Geneva-based' then you should definitely visit the superb Cymbeline in Carouge who produce the most beautiful range of dresses. You will be assisted by the absolutely delightful Lea and Hayet who will help you not only to select the dress of your dreams, but also ensure that it fits you absolutely perfectly. They can even make small design changes to your dress so that it really does have your own individual stamp on it. Just perfect.

If you're more of a 'Lausanne lady' then I would like to present to you Belle en Blanc. This chic boutique it just fabulous. It officially opened on 16th November and I was delighted to be asked to photograph the opening soiree. With exquisite touches of English styling and a wide range of wedding dress designers it really is one of a kind. Furthermore the owner Olga is so friendly and welcoming. When you glance at yourself in the huge gilt-framed mirrors, as the afternoon sun streams through the huge windows, and in that same reflection you catch a glimpse of the beautiful mountain tops across the lake, you really will feel like a princess.

Florence and Sebastien had the most stunning Wedding on the 1st October, in some of the most sublime locations. Being towards the end of the year, you may have expected it to be slightly more 'fresh'. However, they were blessed with the most magical sunshine which made their day even more special.

Their 'Jour J' (as they call it here in Switzerland) was immaculately planned by Joëlle of Marry Me, and I was delighted to be working alongside the very talented videographer Martin Ureta of Video Mariage with whom is always a great pleasure to shoot weddings.

The ceremony was great fun and held at the Temple de Saint Vincent in Montreux, with the most spectacular views over the lake and vineyards. After the ceremony the guests enjoyed an aperitif in Chexbres where they released some colourful balloons, which majestically lifted into the cloudless blue afternoon sky, lit by the golden sunlight. The reception was at yet another beautiful location; the Château d'Aigle, where the guests were entertained by side-splitting games, films and lots of singing. It was then time to hit the dance floor, which was 'on -fire' particularly thanks to Sebastien's relatives (he is half Columbian) who had come over from Colombia especially for the Wedding and were all strutting their stuff. Fabulous!

Laura and Alex had their Civil Ceremony only 2 days before their wedding, so it was all go! This couple really know how to have a great time, their wedding was such fun and full of family heritage. The ceremony was held in the church at Commugny, a very special place for Laura, as both her grandparents and parents were married there. The newlyweds and their guests then returned to Laura's family home in Tannay where they enjoyed a fabulous aperitif in their beautiful gardens, whilst being entertained by a live band. For the more energetic there was even some good old English croquet !

One of the highlights of the day was a wonderful present given to the couple by Laura's grandmother; a huge swiss cow bell with Laura and Alex's name and their wedding date engraved on it. I am sure this will be treasured forever.

Then in true James Bond style the couple left the aperitif in secret, to cruise down the lake by speedboat arriving at the gardens of the reception venue to the great surprise of their guests! Dinner was full of giggles, cheering, speeches, some fantastic singing and the most incredible live band all the way from Mont-Saint Michel. The evening ended with multicoloured lanterns being lit and then floated across the lake. Magical.

I was absolutely delighted to share a stand at the recent 'Salon du mariage' in Geneva with the incredibly talented Fernanda Silva Floral Designer and Catti Cohen of Atelier du sucre. These two ladies are not only highly creative but they are both an absolute joy to spend time with.

I have had the great pleasure to work with Fernanda on many an occasion this year and highly recommend her if you are looking for a floral artist for your wedding, her creations are just stunning. Catti on the other hand makes some of the most fantastic cakes I have ever seen, it is amazing what she can do with sugar. All the decorations (even the flowers) that you see on the cakes below are made 100% from sugar ! If, like me, you are rather partial to the bride and groom cake, you'll be happy to hear that Catti loves making these as 'personal' as possible, so they really reflect you as a couple. Delightful.

Positively Autumnal.

As you can see, Summer has finally departed and the golden glow of the autumnal leaves lightens the streets. For our mid-morning photoshoot Audrey, Vincent and I were very fortunate to have one of those magical days, where the sun shines in the cloudless blue sky and the crisp cool air fills your lungs; so refreshing!

Audrey and Vincent are getting married on Saturday, which sadly will be my last wedding of the season. Although excitingly I already have lots of bookings for next year, so if you're interested in meeting me to chat about your wedding photography, please don't hesitate to get in touch, sooner rather than later!

Lucky in love.

Catherine and Dario are perhaps the luckiest couple I have had the pleasure to photograph this year. Although you can select everything for your Wedding day so that it's just perfect, there's one thing that you can't choose and that's the weather. Unfortunately on the morning of Catherine and Dario's wedding it was quite literally raining cats and dogs, it was thick black clouds as far as the eye could see. Of course we were all staying positive and it paid off, as miraculously by the time we left for the ceremony at 1pm the skies were filled with blazing autumn sunshine.

After the ceremony, the guests and happy couple enjoyed a delightful aperitif on the stunning terrace amongst the vines at Bellevue Wine Estate. Again just as we left for the reception the heavens opened, it was as if the weather was aware of the day's timetable! The reception at the Casino de Morges was beautiful, full of games designed by the best men and bridesmaids who had made such a great effort.

There was one final piece of luck for the day, as with the weather's impeccable timing, the night skies cleared just long enough for a final hour at midnight to allow the wedding party to participate in a majestic lantern release on the pier over the moonlit lakeside. Now that's what I call luck!

Absolutely gigantic smiles were permanently on the faces of Laura and Alex for their delightful civil ceremony. I hope that after looking at their photos you also have a huge grin on your face and that warm fuzzy feeling in your stomach, I sure do.

It is clear to see that they are a fabulous couple, full of life and just so relaxed and easy going. Their civil ceremony was filled with laughter and giggles, it was an absolute delight to photograph. Congratulations once again Mr and Mrs Jones, you've definitely "got a thing going on" !

Incredible Corsica.

I knew after such a fantastic engagement photoshoot with Claudia and Andrew at the Botanical Gardens in Geneva, that their wedding in Corsica was going to be incredible, and it absolutely was!

I love destination weddings and really appreciate how much time, effort and love is put into organising them. Having got married 'abroad' myself in Cape Town, South Africa nearly 7 years ago I understand that sometimes the easiest of things can be a mission! That said, Claudia's parents reside in Corsica and were absolutely amazing helping with all the preparations, it really was such a family event. Everything was so personal; Claudia's sister Wayta did her make-up, her mother personally decorated the whole venue (which was a surprise for the bride and groom) Claudia and Andrew wrote not only their own vows, but the whole ceremony, which was conducted by a very dear friend of theirs who had flown over from America especially for the day.

The ceremony on Arinella beach was so intimate, with just close friends and family. With a backdrop of the most magnificent views of the mountains across the bay, and the azure blue water lapping at their feet, the guests had a real treat. Wow. The dinner was full of fun, music, laughs, dancing and some delicious food. The end of the night could not have ended better; the bride and groom stripped off to reveal swimming costumes with the words 'just married' written on them. As they ran off hand-in-hand into the sea for a midnight dip, they were promptly joined by the rest of the wedding party! Fabulous.

The picturesque church on the hill in Luins, in the middle of the lush green vineyards, with the most spectacular view over Lac Léman was where Cindie and Ronnie chose to have their wedding ceremony. It was a real haven from the heat as the thick stone church walls provided a cooling atmosphere for their beautiful church ceremony, which was conducted by one of the most fun and animated vicars I have seen, he had the congregation in stitches!

It had been quite a journey for Cindie and Ronnie as they met in Australia and now live in Zurich, however Cindie grew up in Givrins, and they chose to return to her 'roots' to celebrate their wedding. After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed a very pleasant aperitif in the grounds of the Château de Luins where the happy couple released some white doves, beautiful. Later in the afternoon Cindie, Ronnie and I went for a little drive to take some couple photographs. We made it to the lake just as the sun was setting and we shot some beautiful photographs of them bathed in golden light on the lakeside in Rolle. Moments like that just make me smile.

Chrysline and Jean-David are getting married in June next year (yes, 2012) I do love organised couples. They chose and booked me as their wedding photographer over 6 months ago which is very sensible as my 2012 is getting booked-up fast and we haven't even got to the end of this wedding season yet!

Fans of everything that is culinary they had specifically asked to have some photos with some 'cooking utensils' as they want to use some of the photos from the engagement photo-shoot for their wedding invitations (and their wedding is going to be rather food orientated!). We had a lot of fun wandering around their village of Etoy, through the vineyards and apple orchards and then we ended off the morning with a little bit of 'whisk jousting' in the village square, what fun! Thanks again Chrysline and JD for choosing me to be your photographer.

Vevey beautiful.

It was just over a month ago that Zoë, Marc-André and I had a great engagement photo-shoot in Grandvaux. Their wedding in Vevey only a few weeks ago was just breath-taking in so many ways. Relaxed, so stylish and with some of the most beautiful wedding vows I have had the pleasure to witness, there honestly was not a dry eye in the house, myself included.

The bride arrived in a very regal royal blue Morris and was greeted by the dulcet tones of her friends playing in a string chamber orchestra, seated in the square just outside the Mairie, wow! After a very intimate ceremony the guests strolled along the lakeside to the Hotel des Trois Couronnes for an aperitif on the hotel's stunning terrace. Dinner was at the same location and was full of laughs, speeches and a little bit of dressing-up !

Zoë and Marc-André, you are such a kind, thoughtful couple it was really a pleasure to be part of your special day and I wish you all the best in your new life together.

Laugh, giggle and then laugh again was how Florence and Sebastien spent last Wednesday morning. They had such fun on their engagement photo shoot that Florence nearly ended up getting an impromptu morning dip in the village fountain, courtesy of a rather cheeky Sebastien... I love it! As we strolled around Saint Prex where they live, along the small cobbled streets, past beautiful old doorways and magnificent views of the lake there was really an abundance of choice of places to photograph, that coupled with the crisp morning light it was just perfect.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the lovely and very talented wedding planner Joëlle, of 'Marry Me' who is working with Florence and Sebastien to help plan their wedding, and who recommended me to be their photographer. I am very excited to photograph their wedding on the 1st October which will no doubt be absolutely beautiful and tons of fun!

Umbrellas, or no umbrellas? That was the question on everyone's lips for Anjali and Markus' wedding on the 6th August. Luckily none of the aforementioned wet weather gear got any serious use. After a ceremony full of smiles in the Château de Coppet the guests enjoyed an aperitif in the beautiful Château gardens and were then treated to a delightful little boat cruise on Lac Léman before entering the caves of the Château for dinner. A fun and relaxed time was had by all.

The bride and groom looked fantastic and I must mention that the bride's dress, bought from the excellent wedding dress boutique : Cymbeline in Carouge, was fabulous and even more cunningly was actually 2 dresses in one! For the evening the underskirts could be removed to create a beautiful knee length little number, wow!

Fanny and Nicolas were not the only two who looked fabulous in their wedding attire on their special day. Nicolas' father had 'dressed-up' their two Mini Cooper cars ; one for the bride and one for the groom, what a great surprise for the bride who knew nothing about it! The groom's car had a huge top hat and white bow-tie, whilst the bride's had big red lips and a tiara. Wow.

The Swiss may sometimes have a reputation for being a rather reserved society, however this literally all goes out the window during a wedding cortège! It is traditional in Switzerland for the wedding party to travel in a cortège from the church to the aperitif location. With hazard lights flashing, horns beeping and the bridal party throwing sweets into the street for any children cheering to them from the pavement, it's quite something to witness. I always feel a great honour to be part of this truly unique event.

I cannot wait until next Saturday as I am photographing Claudia and Andrew's wedding on the beach in Corsica! I am particularly excited as we had such a fun engagement photo shoot together on Thursday. They are such a bubbly and easy going couple (and did I mention, very much in love). As you can see from the photos, a little 'tree climbing' was all in a day's work for them!

They chose the Botanical Gardens in Geneva, for the photo shoot and although it was a swelteringly hot day, we used the shelter of many of the garden's magnificent trees which also made for some beautiful photos. Just stunning.

Some ex-pats have re-located here and some grew up here, Sarah and Rory fall into the latter category as Sarah was very lucky to spend her younger years here. It was a real delight to be able to photograph her getting ready with her sister in her childhood home in Pragnins.

However, it is clear from the photographs that Rory is from slightly further afield ; he's Scottish (the kilt is a minor give-away). It has been a while since I have had the pleasure to photograph 'men in kilts', although I must admit the Scottish heritage runs deep, the last wedding I shot where the groom was kilted was in South America! (See Maria & George's wedding)

There are a few words that I would use to evoke the atmosphere of Rory and Sarah's day; intimate, hand-crafted and full of smiles. The little touches were so important; flowers hand picked by Sarah's mother from their garden, a brooch worn by Sarah lent to her by her 90 year old Aunt Ruth, an intimate church ceremony, delicious food and some excellent 80's music accompanied by generous quantities of the local Swiss wine. Just delightful.

Ayse is Turkish and Stephane Swiss, which made for a really colourful July wedding in Geneva. They had decided that they wanted to have their couple photoshoot before their Civil Ceremony so that they could spend the maximum amount of time with their guests at the aperitif. This is a request that I receive more and more from couples and of course I am more than happy to oblige, in my opinion the photography should enhance the day not be the focus.

Stephane, who is a very keen photographer, had identified some of their favourite places in the Parc des Eaux Vives, Geneva before their big day. We then spent an enjoyable hour wandering through the park to various locations where we were greeted along the way by many friendly well-wishers. After the ceremony the guests and happy couple enjoyed an aperitif and dinner at the very regal Restaurant Parc des Eaux Vives. Beautiful.

Zoë and Marc-André are just my kind of couple; they are so relaxed, friendly and they love to travel! They met in Tel-Aviv and have lived in Zoë's home country of Australia for a few years. They are now back in Switzerland and enjoying the stunning city of Vevey where they are getting married in just under 2 weeks, exciting!

We had a really great photo-shoot together on Tuesday in Grandvaux, what an excellent choice. The combination of winding alleyways, old stone buildings, stunning views and of course the find of the day for me a 'bumble-bee door' made for some beautiful photos. I can't wait for their wedding day.

Sylvaine and Etienne had a stunning wedding in some truly magnificent locations in the Geneva area on July 16th. Their day was impeccably planned by Saskia of Pro Events and the happy couple enjoyed a beautiful candle lit church service in the Temple de Commugny, followed by an aperitif at the Château de Bossey which has some very colourful gardens and a beautiful view of Lac Léman. The reception was held in the Château de Penthes where everyone was entertained by an array of games and a particular treat was a fantastic choreographed routine performed by some of Sylvaine's friends to a Michael Jackson classic.

I am really excited about tomorrow as Anjali and Markus are getting married in the Château de Coppet. They are such a fun couple, full of energy, smiles and a lot of cheekiness (which I love!). They had their engagement photo-shoot with me on Monday at the Port Gitana just outside Geneva. As you can see they really couldn't stop smiling! Fingers and toes crossed that they have great weather on Saturday.

They are in fact very fortunate to be having 2 weddings. Markus is German and Anjali is Indian - Canadian (what a great combination!) and they live here in Switzerland. Hence they are having a traditional Swiss wedding here tomorrow and then another wedding in Canada on the 21st August which will have more of an 'Indian' theme to it.

Melissa and Matt had the most amazingly fun wedding in the Château de Coppet on the 9th July, which just reflected their personalities perfectly. It was also rather emotional, so much so that when they read each other their vows I nearly shed a tear .

As both Melissa and Matt are English there were lots of guests that had come over from the UK to celebrate with the happy couple. They were of course all eager to experience all that Switzerland has to offer, which included an impromptu mid-afternoon dip in the lake after the aperitif (I hope none of them got any of the famed Lac Léman duck fleas!). The evening extravaganza included some fabulous food and some serious dance moves being displayed in the caves of the Château.....there was even a bridal led conga!

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jo the bridesmaid for catching Melissa's bouquet.....although I have to say that I am slightly suspicious! This is the 3rd wedding in a row that I have photographed this month where a bridesmaid has caught the bouquet!

Well, Virginie and Yannis did travel in absolute style to their wedding on Tuesday in an immaculate Aston Martin DB5.....wow!

Virginie and Yannis are such a wonderful couple and I felt honoured to be part of their very emotional and beautiful civil ceremony in the Château de Lutry, with only very close family and friends present. As we left the lakeside Château in a cortège, there was no match for the growl of the DB5 as it gripped the stone-walled vineyard roads that snaked up the hillside to the location for the aperitif; Grandvaux.

The views are sublime from Grandvaux, as ever Switzerland never ceases to surprise me! As the golden evening light bathed the terrace and the guests enjoyed their delicious canapés, Virginie, Yannis and I managed to capture some truly magical images.

In my experience no wedding runs 100% seamlessly however much planning there is beforehand. Therefore, just like Céline and Gregoire, taking these little hiccups in your stride really is the key to having a fabulous day!

It was after a rather enthusiastic stretch-stride-bend manoeuvre that a crucial seam in Gregoire's trousers decided to 'pop' only a few hours before he was meant to be walking down the aisle! Thankfully everyone saw the funny side and we even managed to have an artistic couple photoshoot before the wedding (as planned) in some stunning locations, albeit in the rather toasty 30 degree heat. I secretly think that Gregoire was grateful for the extra trouser ventilation! The story of course has a happy ending, as a helpful neighbour quickly fixed the trousers a mere 20 mins before the ceremony. What a great little story!

It was such fun working with Céline and Gregoire and as you can see we got some really beautiful photographs, I hope you enjoy them.

Sylvaine and Etienne chose an absolutely stunning location for their civil ceremony last Friday. They had an intimate ceremony at the Mairie de Dardagny and were in fact the only couple to be married that day, which meant we had lots of time to take some beautiful family and couple photographs outside the venue afterwards.

Sylvaine and Etienne are working very closely with their wedding planner Saskia Menke, owner of Pro Events. She is helping them every step of the way with all the planning of both their civil ceremony and of course their wedding which will take place this Saturday. I'm really looking forward to seeing Sylvaine and Etienne again in just a matter of days!

Ayse and Stephane live in Geneva but they came out to Coppet on Saturday for their Engagement shoot. Of course I took them to the tree lined avenue outside the Château de Coppet which is just magnificent at this time of year. Ayse works with Elodie another client of mine whose wedding I photographed on the 29th April this year. I am always so happy when I get clients that come with a recommendation from another client, it puts a huge smile on my face!

I am really looking forward to shooting Ayse and Stephane's wedding in 2 weeks. As with lots of couples that have chosen me as their wedding photographer, they have decided to have their 'couple photographs' before the ceremony in the Parc des Eaux-Vives in Geneva which will be beautiful.

Golden glow.

For all those couples that get a cold shiver at the thought of torrential rain on their wedding day, this wedding just goes to show that every rain cloud really does have a silver lining!

On my arrival in Lucerne on the morning of the wedding at the Hermitage Hotel it was quite literally raining buckets. However Leunora and Ramadan sensibly had a 'Plan B' to have their ceremony inside. They were then blessed with a few breaks in the cloud throughout the day which allowed Leunora to arrive at the ceremony by boat, and also for us to take some beautiful family and couple photographs by the lakeside. This was followed by an evening of dancing as the guests all enjoyed some traditional Albanian dancing, and were later treated to a performance by some young Indian dancers (a gift from the bride's sister and husband).

What a beautiful and romantic couple these two are. They met on the bumper cars at the fun-fair, and Leunora gave Ramadan a white rose to remember her by....which he still has! A few years later he then proposed to her at sunset under the Eiffel Tower (on her birthday no less) surrounded by hundreds of flickering candles, wow! You can really see the love glowing between this stunning couple.

Catherine and Dario are one of those couples that you instantly warm to. They are so kind, friendly and of course totally in love. Although they are getting married in September, they asked me to be present to photograph their civil ceremony at the Château de Nyon on Friday. I was of course delighted to accept such a kind invitation. It was an intimate affair with only close family and friends present, full of smiles and even a few tears !

Purple (which I have a suspicion is Catherine's favourite colour) was the order of the day and Catherine and Dario's outfits complemented each other perfectly, topped off by a beautiful posy of flowers given to the bride-to-be by Fabio (Dario's brother) as a present.

Semarier is the most distinguished wedding magazine in French-speaking Switzerland. In each edition the editor selects a different sector of the wedding industry on which to focus. An individual company is then selected to represent that sector and is featured in the magazine.

Fabulous Fribourg.

Céline and Gregoire are both from the canton of Fribourg, and hence have chosen this magnificent place as the location for their wedding next week. I visited them on Monday to have a chat through the final details in preparation for their big day, and also to photograph their 'engagement shoot'.

It must be said that both Céline and Gregoire are keen photographers, and as we strolled through the town of Fribourg together, they pointed out some stunning views....of which there was an abundance, what a beautiful city!

I can't wait to photograph their wedding in just over a week.
